We are thrilled to share this special message as we embark on a new year and an incredible journey. Last February, Empowerment Squared, in partnership with McMaster University and supported by Schools of Dreams, launched the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP). This new initiative hosts interns to conduct research for Schools of Dreams exploring educational outcomes and sustainable learning environments in Ghana.

Being part of this program is an important boost to our ability to meet our mission of creating sustainable change in Ghana. We are one month into our first cohort of interns and have five remarkable students – Jolen Kayseas, Tsinat Semagn, Ahlam Yassien, Fataumata Binta Balde and Oluwafolakemi Vanessa Olayiwola – working with us at the Schools of Dreams office in Ghana until April. Each one brings unique talents and perspectives that will enrich our programs and strengthen our impact in the communities we serve.

The IYIP provides young Canadians with valuable international work experience, while also contributing to the development goals in countries like Ghana. It is designed to foster a network of compassionate, skilled youth who are prepared to address social challenges in their communities. As we engage with this program, we are committed to integrating our interns into our initiatives in an impactful way that allows them to learn, grow and contribute to meaningful projects with a lasting impact.

This grant is a testament to the hard work and commitment we have collectively invested to uplift and empower young people in Ghana. Our president, Barbara, extends her heartfelt thanks to our project partners who have believed in our vision and collaborated with us on this journey. Your support is crucial to our goals becoming reality, and we are genuinely grateful.

As we move forward, we’ll keep all our stakeholders updated on our progress. This message is just the first of many that Schools of Dreams will share, detailing the interns’ experiences, the projects they will be involved in, and the transformation we hope to achieve together by the end of the four-year term.

Together, we have the opportunity to foster a brighter future for the youth of Ghana, and we are excited to embark on this journey with all of you. Thank you for your continuous belief in Schools of Dreams and for being an integral part of our story.
